Cicero

John McGuthry has over 25 years of experience in the field if information technology and has a diverse background in both university and corporate settings with a unique set of experiences in planning and launching new business services and units.

At Cal Poly Pomona, John leads the Information Technology Division as the Vice President and Chief Information Officer. Prior to Cal Poly Pomona, John was CIO at Armstrong State University in Savannah Georgia and the CIO at Reinhardt College in Waleska, Georgia.

Prior to Higher Education, John held leadership positions as the director of Product Management for BellSouth’s Internet Division. John was also the director of Professional Services and Principal Consultant for Telcordia Technologies Consulting Division.

John began his career as a system and network administrator at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt Maryland and also held technical positions at Mitre, and IBM.

John speaks publicly on information technology at professional conferences as well as to private organizations. John continues to be an active professional partner to Educause, ACUTA, and other higher education focused organizations. John also serves as a member of CIO Executive Council and the Southern California Society for Information Management.

John earned his Masters of Science Degree in Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology and his Bachelors of Science Degree from the University of Maryland, College Park.
