Data Analytics, Data Value and the Cloud: What's In It for the Business?

Gartner's Hype Cycle places Big Data Analytics and Information Valuation on the rise, and cloud computing sliding into the trough of disillusionment. The growing use of diverse data types, new algorithms and new data combinations continues to attract significant media attention, and new stories describing how companies and governments are leveraging Big Data to improve outcomes are a daily occurrence. Yet many basic IT questions remain: for companies that commit to Big Data, what is the value of their data after all of the required investments are made? Who defines that value?  IT? Business? The CFO? The question of the value of a company's data and information has been around a long time - is there something different in Big Data valuation, or is it just that more data is better, and that more data and more analytics must make the output more valuable? This talk will bring together some new perspectives on data value, analytics and the cloud, and provide examples of project and activities generating measurable business value.
